Comedy Central Pulls The Plug On Larry Wilmore's 'Nightly Show'
Two seasons deep into its run as the successor to Stephen Colbert's The Colbert Report, Comedy Central has pulled the plug on Larry Wilmore's Nightly Show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CC president Kent Alterman has cited the show's fairly unimpressive ratings as well as an inability to connect with its target demographic as the main forces behind the cancellation.
It is an odd time to end the run given that it's an election year, but the main takeaway from all of this seems to be that CC is doubling down on its support for Trevor Noah, whose new gig on The Daily Show is a larger platform, despite its equally unimpressive ratings. Chris Hardwick’s @Midnight will step up into the 11:30pm slot until a new replacement is found. It's certainly a sad day for Nightly Show fans, but we will always remember to keep it 100 in its wake. The final episode of Nightly Show will air this Thursday. Check back with us later in the week as we ready a proper salute to Larry Wilmore and all of the enlightenment he's graced us with in the last two years.
