Watch the Video for Common & Daniel Caesar's J. Dilla-Produced "HER Love"

You gave me a voice in the world It's been hard to choose another girl.

Twenty-five years ago, Common, still a young MC at the time, dropped "I Used to Love H.E.R." his iconic ode to hip-hop. In 1999, The Roots released their classic albumThings Fall Apart. On that album is "Act Too (Love of My Life)," the sequel, which features Common and Black Thought rapping about hip-hop's progression (or lack of) at the time.

Now we have the third song in the trilogy. Common has just released "HER Love," his latest ode to hip-hop. The song features Daniel Caesaron the hook and production from J. Dilla. (During an album listening session last month, Common said he was reluctant to use J. Dilla production.)

While "I Used to Love Her" and "Act Too" were both critical of the direction hip-hop was going, "HER Love" features Common being more accepting.

On the song he raps:

They trip when you mumble, they trip when you sing. But you gave us, a chance to dream.

In Young Yhugs, you see a Future. You recognize Little Uzi ain't here to shoot ya.

At 21, you knew I was Savage. But you said "Common you will never be average."
