Player Xchange: Go Dreamer x Just A Band
Go Dreamer and Just A Band connect for the second installment of the Okayplayer x OkayafricaPlayer Exchange series (1 artist from the US x 1 artist from Africa + 1 day in Converse Rubber Tracks studio = jams. Get it?). OKA favorites, Kenya's Just A Band teams with Atlanta rapper Go Dreamer (you may recognize his name from the credits on Big Boi's last album) to produce "Digitize Me (Conventional Oven)" - a collaborative track that seems to take a portion of its creative cues from the harmonies of Take 6 and the certified heat of Outkast. In a nod to Go Dreamer's ATL roots, the hook and title both reference Andre 3000's lyrics from "Synthesizer" from Outkast's critically acclaimed LP Aquemini.
The rest of the production has JAB's signature all over it. Just A Band - the killer pop collective responsible for Africa's first viral hit - was asked to collaborate with Go Dreamer for the Okayafrica series which links artists from across the African diaspora. The transcontinental collaboration converged on Converse Rubber Tracks in New York City to record this song - a danced up hip-hop track anchored by a break beat and relentless beatbox that plays like a walking bass. The track is complimented by a smooth backing vocal and catchy hook that leave it ripe for a little bit of soul clap. With "Digitize Me (Conventional Oven)," Go Dreamer and Just A Band drop a joint fresh from the oven at Converse Rubber Tracks that is everything but conventional.
