During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, former Griselda member Conway The Machine admitted that he didn't read the group's contract.
Back with new album God Don't Make Mistakes, Conway The Machineaired out his grievances with former enclave Griselda. When signing to the independent label, Conway shared during a recent Breakfast Club appearance that he didn't thoroughly read the contract.
“When we did that shit in the beginning, I really wasn’t all the way… I’mma keep it a buck. I didn’t even read that contract, bro. I didn’t read that shit—I just signed that shit and moved on," he said around the 40:28 mark. "Unfortunately, the contract wasn’t in my favor. So now, going forward, it’s time to redo all that. I gotta make sure it’s in my favor now.”
Conway added that he'll still “wave the Griselda flag regardless because… I was hands-on with that. Me and [Westside Gunn]. We can figure something out, which I’m sure we will.”
Charlemagne tha God then probed Conway about whether he signed the contract without a lawyer present for a quick cash-in, which the rapper denied. “I didn’t get no money,” he said, explaining that he received “some pocket change” for his contracts with Shady Records, Interscope, and Griselda.
Conway said that "pretty much" everyone in the group got paid but him. Angela Yee asked the rapper if he could trust anyone after his experience, to which Conway said he "don't," not even Griselda member Westside Gunn.
“I don’t trust nobody no more. I trust that it’ll be all business. That’s what I trust. I trust me… I tried it the other way and got nothing out of it," Conway said.
Despite recalling the alleged unfairness, Conway said that it “was all love.”
The
God Don't Make Mistakes rapper last discussed leaving Griselda and Shady Records
in an episode of the
Bootleg Kev Podcast in February.
"Yeah, like sitting right here right now, I’m not on a contract with Griselda, Shady none of that shit no more — it’s free agency right now you heard,” Conway said. “I need that supermax man, I need that Giannis [Antetokounmpo] bag.”
Conway's 17-date Love Will Get You Killed World Tour begins Friday, March 25th in Amsterdam and ends May 8th in Montreal. Tickets are available on
his official website.
