According to Pitchfork, Shinichiro Watanabewill serve as creative producer on an upcoming Blade Runner anime series for Adult Swim. Picked up for a 13-episode run, Blade Runner: Black Lotus will take place within the Blade Runner universe in the year 2032, between the events of original and the recently released, sequel, Blade Runner 2049.

Last year, just before the sequel's release, Watanabe offered a taste of what an animated installment might look like in the short Blade Runner: Black Out 2022, which featured a score from Flying Lotus. There's no word on the producer's involvement in the new series, but given his ties to Adult Swim, it's not something we'd entirely rule out.
No word yet on when we can expect the series to debut, but you can get a glimpse of the anime-styled Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 for free via Crunchyroll. Stay tuned for updates in the weeks and months ahead.
