In a report from NME, management for the Black Messiah artist issued a statement speaking on the postponed gig, saying that "D'Angelo has been working in the studio, deep in the recording process."
"He apologizes to any fans that this announcement might impact and is excited to see you all in June. We thank you for your continued patience and cooperation and look forward to an amazing tour," the statement concluded.
D'Angelo's third and latest album, Black Messiah, was released in 2014 after a 14-year hiatus. The album was a commercial and critical success, debuting at number five on the U.S. Billboard charts, as well as receiving the award for best R&B album at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
D'Angelo will also headline Afropunk 2018 in Paris. Other A-list artists joining the singer on the big stage include SZA, Wizkid, and Damian Marley. Artists on the bill include Goldlink, Gary Clark Jr., Estere, Sandra Nkaké, and more. This isn't the first time D'Angelo has headlined an Afropunk festival. He performed with The Roots in Brooklyn in 2014.
