Eddie Murphy Reveals Dave Chappelle Was Supposed To Be In 'Coming 2 America'
Unfortunately, Dave Chappelle wasn't able to appear in the forthcoming movie because of schedule conflicts.
Coming 2 America will be dropping next month, and ahead of its release Eddie Murphy did a recent virtual press junket where he revealed that there was a well-known comedian who was supposed to appear in the film. In a report from Looper, Murphy shared that Dave Chappelle was going to be in the movie portraying a witch doctor.
"Originally I was going to play the witch doctor," Murphy said. "And I was going to play Wesley's character, the General Izzi. But then I started thinking about how long it would be to do these makeups."
Chappelle came into the picture after he did a show with Arsenio Hall, with Hall telling the comedian that a Coming to America sequel was in the works. Although Chappelle had landed the role of the witch doctor he unfortunately wasn't able to do it.
"It didn't work out because scheduling and all that stuff," Murphy said.
Coming 2 America will be dropping on Amazon Prime on March 5, 2021. The first trailer for the film was released a couple months back. In related news, Chappelle recently revealed that his beloved Chappelle's Show was returning to Netflix after a discussion he had with Comedy Central. He shared the news in a video that was taken during one of his socially distanced comedy shows in Austin, Texas.
“I asked you to stop watching the show and thank God almighty for you, you did,” he said in the video. “You made that show worthless, because without your eyes it’s nothing.”
“And when you stopped watching it, they called me,” Chappelle continued. “And I got my name back. And I got my license back. And I got my show back. And they paid me millions of dollars. Thank you very much.”
The show returned to Netflix's catalog on February 12.
