OKP Premiere: Ray West ft. Blu & Dave Dar - "Stay Still" [Video]
You know exatly what day it is. Just in time for Valentine's Day, Bronx-based producer Ray West is getting the holiday started with a brand new video--one of the smoothest we've heard in a while. The clip is for West's track "Stay Still," a tender hip-hop joint that was released on his 2014 Berrii Lipstick EP and features American/Dominican/Pakistani MC Dave Dar and rapper/vocalist Blu.
Over a tranquil sea of strings, flute loops and roving bass, Dar and Blue drop introspective verses that attest to the joys of courtship. West flipped a vintage Ronnie Laws cut of the same name in order to make the track, but his subtle drum additions work wonders--this is more than your average soul sample groove session.
But this is all about the video, which Okayplayer is very proud to premiere. Directed by A.M. Fine and Dave Dar himself, the clip features two beautiful people enjoying a beautiful day in the park. From there things get interesting--the lovebirds spark up a conversation, share a date, and make it back to Brooklyn together. That's when things shift a bit, but to know just how, you'll have to watch it for yourself. "Stay Still" will be sweet solace to anyone who's had to chase after a crush, if only to avoid the regret of never saying "hello." It's a perfectly bittersweet way to begin this Valentine's Day. Keep on loving, players. Watch the clip below.
