David Byrne & Jamie Lidell Share Remixes Of Baby Elephant's "How Does The Brain Wave?"
Of Bernie Worrell's many phases, faces and modes, his Baby Elephant collaboration with Prince Paul and Don Newkirk probably left most heads scratching. Their debut Turn My Teeth Up! was a wormhole of synthesizers, hand claps and deep funk, led by an OG and two of his disciples, Newkirk's voice guiding us through and through. The album also featured guest appearances from George Clinton, Nona Hendryx, Reggie Watts and David Byrne amongst others, all putting their P-Funk horns to the sky as they navigate the murky, jet-set funk Worrell, Paul and Newkirk had cooked up.
The album is celebrating nearly a decade with us on our earthly plane, and seeing as how we'll be celebrating Mr. Worrell even after Sir Nose learns to swim, David Byrne and Jamie Lidell have offered up two very funky (and very different) remixes of the album cut "How Does The Brain Wave" for you to sink your ears into this Thursday morning. You can hear Byrne's remix down below, just be sure to head over to MusicGlue to peep Lidell's take and donate to Bernie Worrell, who is suffering in a bout with Stage 4 lung cancer and recently had a massive P-Funk blowout in his name at NYC's Webster Hall to help raise money to cover medical bills and housing costs.
