David 'Sunken Place' Clarke Calls Colin Kaepernick An 'Opportunist'
Social media held the former Milwaukee County sheriff to task for his remarks.
Saturday evening, David Clarke took to Twitter to call NFL athlete Colin Kaepernick an "opportunist," writing:
When I see Kaepernick in the hood mentoring young black males on making better lifestyle choices then I will know his sincerity.
Of course, the irony of this statement is that Kaepernick has done just that, and more than once. He went to a parole office in Queens and donated 100 custom-made suits for men and women trying to get a job earlier this year; and during a bye week when he still played for the 49ers, he hosted a grassroots event for 100 youth from all over the Bay Area, which included workshops on nutrition and health, financial knowledge, higher education options, and more.
Inevitably. plenty of people on Twitter took Clarke to task for his comment.
Kaepernick was recently named Community MVP by the NFL Players Association.
"For being named this week's Community MVP, the NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to Kaepernick's foundation or charity of choice along with an in-kind donation to him on behalf of our supporting partner Delta Private Jets” the association announced this past Friday. "Kaepernick, along with the other 2017 Community MVPs, will also become eligible for this year's Byron Whizzer White Award, which is the highest honor that the NFLPA can bestow upon a player."
