Watch As Dev Hynes Performs Live At A Runway Show During New York Fashion Week
If Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange) has anything, he's got taste. The 29 year-old singer and composer lent his talents to the festivities of New York Fashion Week, both writing and performing a completely original soundtrack to Eckhaus Latta's critically acclaimed Fall 2015 runway show.
With handwritten notes atop his keyboard and multiple backing singers--including his girlfriend and frequent Blood Orange collaborator Samantha Urbani--Hynes performed a set that featured saxophone, flowing vocal harmonies and the kind of strong, ceaseless beats that fuel runway shows all around the world (and appear all over Blood Orange records). In a brief clip from Vogue we get a peek into the show, which took place yesterday afternoon; Hynes's music appears to have been a perfect match for the line, which is a collaborative label from designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta. At video's end we catch a candid glimpse of models swaying to Dev's beats--which makes sense. Who could resist the power of this man's seductive sounds?
And it seems that the show as a whole was deemed a great success amongst fashion critics. New York Magazine noted that the runway event had a wholesome sort of sadness to it, and the spartan look of the loft room and clothing hit an austere note that worked. When bloggers at Opening Ceremonysummed up Dev Hynes's soundtrack, they went with "Sad, atmospheric, and concrete."
Watch the Vogue clip below for a taste of Dev's performance and stay tuned for both more Blood Orange news and the next update from OKP style.
