Mixtape Mondays: Diplo, Waajeed, DJ Marsellus Wallace
My fellow East Coasters, I know Hurricane Sandy is causing some unnecessary drama in our lives right now, but the show must go on. This week's Mixtape Mondays is packed full of goodies that you can throw on your iPod and put in your "go bag" should you need to evacuate. No one ever said evacuations needed to be done in silence. If you aren't (read: being forced to) evacuate and are waiting out the storm at home, then these mixes should keep you entertained throughout all the wind and rain slated to wreak havoc over the next couple of days.
If you're not even in the path of the storm, I guess you can enjoy these too.
Waajeed - Dirt Tech Reck On BBC Radio
Waajeed (or is it just Jeedo now?) has been largely silent since the release of the last Platinum Pied Pipers album, Abundance, back in 2009. If you've been paying attention, you'll know that Jeed has been working on fresh content for his website, Bling47, and is launching a new record label, Dirt Tech Reck. Waajeed stopped by Benji B's radio show on BBC Radio 1 and debuted a ton of joints coming out on the label from names (read: Jeedo pseudonyms?) like Electric Street Orchestra, Jeedeci and Tiny Hearts. This isn't technically a mixtape, but this is required listening!
Diplo - got stoned and mixed really old records for half an hour
Some of you being affected by Hurricane Sandy may have loaded up on your favorite intoxicants to kill the time during this storm. Whether you stocked up on weed or liquor, Diplo's latest mix might be right up your alley. The famed DJ apparently smoked a lil sticky icky and put together this crazy mix featuring cuts from Rotary Connection, Donovan, Jimi Hendrix, Dorothy Ashby, Jefferson Airplane and many more.
DJ Marsellus Wallace - Soundtrack Pro
70's film soundtracks have been a blessing to beatmakers and record collectors. These records, often regardless of the film genre, were often chock full of funky grooves and sampleable ambient pieces. DJ Marsellus Wallace grabs some gems from the soundtracks to Shaft In Africa, Tough Guys,Death Wish, and quite a few more films I couldn't even begin to guess the source of.
