DJ Dahi Showcases His Musicianship On 'Rhythm Roulette'
Typically when one steps up to the plate on Mass Appeal's always proper Rhythm Roulette, it's a quick jump from the record store to the chopping block. Not for DJ Dahi, though. The producer behind smash hits from Kendrick Lamar,Drake and Madonna (amongst countless others) took his time to showcase his uncanny musicianship, layering bass lines, key licks and even yelp of harmonica over samples dug up from records by Neil Young, Lights and Torche; uncharacteristic sources for a hip-hop producer with such mainstream appeal. Then again, this the dude that sculpted a modern classic out of Beach House's "Silver Soul."
When all is said and done, Dahi comes up with not one, not two, but three sonic suites, ripe and ready for your favorite emcee's wordplay. It's an intimate glimpse into the musical mind of a modern-day hip-hop producer that's just as musically inclined as some of your favorite musicians. Watch as DJ Dahi runs his game on Rhythm Roulette down below and be sure to hold tight for his next transmission or the next episode of this never-failing series. The latter will likely come first.
