DJ Premier Speaks On The Legacy Of NYC's Legendary D&D Studios

DJ Premier's D&D Studios Closes After Almost 25 Years Of Classics

Home base of the world famous DJ Premier, New York's legendary D&D Studios closed shop last week after almost 25 years of churning out some of the most important tracks in hip-hop history. Premo took over the fourth floor studios at 320 West 37th Street in 1991, renamed it HeadQCourterz and used the facilities to record Gang Starr's Daily Operation LP, amongst other notable projects and classic tracks; Big L, Kanye West, Jay Z, Nas and The Notorious B.I.G. are just a few names on the long list of artists that have made history within the studio's walls. DJ Premier's decision to leave the hallowed ground of D&D was one that was ultimately made for him:

"The building was sold in order to change it from commercial business to residential and our leases would not be renewed, so basically that means Everybody Out! It is tough to accept after so many years making that much history there, but life is good and I will continue to make hot music. Passion never leaves your soul and I have a lot of it so I'm ready to continue on." says Premier.

The HeadQCourterz studio has relocated to KAS Music and Sound at Kaufman Astoria Studios, where DJ Premier will reportedly be working on developing a live show. Click the link below to get more on the importance of D&D Studios. Stay tuned for more from DJ Premier.
