Even Don Cheadle is Confused By His Emmy Nomination For His 98-Second Cameo in 'Falcon & The Winter Soldier'
Don Cheadle has been nominated for an Emmy 11 times. He might win his first one because of a brief cameo in Falcon & The Winter Soldier
Ninety-eight seconds. That's how long Don Cheadle appeared on the Disney+ hit Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
And, yet, Cheadle — not Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie — was the actor to get an Emmy nomination on Tuesday morning. He got a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, alongside Charles Dance (The Crown), Timothy Olyphant (The Mandalorian), Courtney B. Vance (Lovecraft Country) and Carl Weathers (The Mandalorian) It was a baffling nomination. Cheadle, who plays Colonel James Rupert “Rhodey” Rhodes (aka War Machine) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was on the show for less than two minutes during the premiere episode, "New World Order."
When the nomination came out, fans were stunned — especially when you consider that no other actor from Falcon and The Winter Soldier got an Emmy nomination.
Soon after, Don Cheadle went to Twitter. He was also confused by the nomination. But, didn't do a lot of complaining:
Cheadle has been nominated for an Emmys 11 times, with his first nomination coming in 1999 for his portrayal of Sammy Davis, Jr. in the Rat Pack. However, Cheadle has never taken home an award. Wouldn't it be great if his first W came from a 90 second appearance on a Marvel show?
Cheadle first appeared in the MCU as War Machine in 2010's Iron Man 2. This was a role that was originally played by Terrance Howard but he was fired after the first Iron Man movie after contractual differences.
