Donald Glover Talks New 'Spider-Man' Film, Young Lando Rumors

Donald Glover has some big projects coming up: aside from his forthcoming FX television series Atlanta, the multi talented Glover is also a part of next year's Spider-Man: Homecoming movie.

In an interview with TIME the actor discussed filming for Homecoming (however he doesn't disclose who he'll be portraying in the Marvel movie), stating that "the movie was fun to shoot" but he didn't "want it to feel like some sort of affirmative action."

Homecoming so far sounds like a reinvention of the Spider-Man film franchise. Aside from the diversity of the film (it will have the most black and POC characters that any Marvel film has seen thus far) it's also being described as a coming of age flick, with John Hughes and certain movies such as Almost Famous and Say Anything... being major influences on Homecoming.

"Yeah, people just miss Spider-Man being a kid. That's what's really fun about it," Glover said. "It helps you remember how it was to be a teenager."

As for those rumors about the 32-year-old portraying a young Lando Calrissian, Glover neither confirmed or denied that he's the first choice for the role but did speak highly of the iconic Star Wars franchise.

"I mean, I grew up on it. My dad was a big fan. I had all the toys when I was little," Glover said. "I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It's a dynasty. It's like the bible. I love that franchise."

Well, we'll see in time the role that Glover portrays in Homecoming, as well as if he'll actually be the young Lando when Homecoming and Han Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out on July 7, 2017 and some time in 2018, respectively. As for Atlanta, the TV show will be making its big debut on September 6, 2016.
