So, two weeks ago came news that Dave Chappelle and Dylan Dili from Making The Band had finally met for the first time, and now Dili has spoken to us about the experience.

"It felt like meeting my brother who pissed me off years ago but made sure he left money in the stash for me that I found later," Dili said.

Upon meeting Chappelle at a party he was hosting at Brooklyn's House of Vans, the famed comedian offered the rapper shots of whiskey and discussed their shared heritage (they have the same West Indian background). Chappelle also acknowledged just how important Dili's role was in creating a pop culture moment when his Chappelle's Show series parodied Making The Band, which Dili was a part of.

The Making The Band sketch, which premiered alongside a number of other sketches on an episode of Chappelle's Show that dropped back in March 2004, included many memorable lines (especially with Chappelle portraying Diddy) but one of the most memorable was Chappelle’s portrayal of Dili, who was a member of Da Band, a hip-hop group managed by Diddy. In the sketch, Chappelle as Dylan rhetorically asks "Who are the top five greatest rappers of all time," only to respond "Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, and Dylan because I spit hot fire."

"[Chappelle] admitted that I made him famous so that was cool and different," Dili said. "Things are destined to be and by throwing me out there like that it created a piece of pop culture that will never die."

Dili is currently working on his forthcoming album titled Pain 2 Power which Chappelle recorded a brief promo for when he and Dili met. The album drops on September 15.
