Eddie Murphy to Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award at 2023 Golden Globes
Legendary comedian, actor and six-time Golden Globe nominee Eddie Murphy will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award on January 10.
Eddie Murphy will receive one of the highest honors at the 2023 Golden Globes. On Tuesday night (January 10), the legendary comedian, actor, Oscar-nominee and six-time Golden Globe nominee (who picked up a trophy in 2007), will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which honors “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment."
In 2007, Murphy picked up a Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture Golden Globe for his role as James (Jimmy) "Thunder" Early in Dreamgirls. The Brooklyn native also scored nominations for 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, The Nutty Professor and 2019 Netflix film Dolemite Is My Name. Murphy most recently starred in 2021 Amazon Prime film Coming 2 America and will appear in upcoming Netflix comedy You People.
With the Cecil B. DeMille prize being accepted by Murphy during the 2023 Golden Globes, the Carol Burnett Award for "outstanding contributions to television or off the screen" will also be given to Monster anthology co-creator Ryan Murphy.
“We’re honored to present this year’s Cecil B.DeMille Award to the iconic and highly esteemed Mr. Eddie Murphy,” said HFPA president Helen Hoehne. “We’re thrilled to be celebrating the lasting impact on film and television that his career — in front of and behind the camera — has had through the decades.” In accepting the prize, Murphy will join past recipients including Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Steven Spielberg, Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda and more.
Hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, the 2023 Golden Globes will be held on Tuesday, January 10, broadcasting live on NBC at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET.
