Eddie Murphy and All His Alter-Egos Return in 'Coming 2 America' Trailer
Here's the first look at Eddie Murphy in Coming 2 America.
Last week, Paramount Pictures and Amazon Studios released the first images of Eddie Murphy and cast in the long-awaited Coming 2 America. On Tuesday, the studio released the movie's first official trailer. Get your first taste of the action below.
This time around, viewers return to Zamunda, where the former Prince Akeem is awaiting his coronation as king. There's just one catch: his father King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones) reminds him that the throne must be passed to a male heir. As it turns out, Akeem does have an heir back in America.
"Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda," the studio says in a press release, "newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York--where it all began."
Much of the original cast returns, as well as newcomers like Tracy Morgan, Luenell, Teyana Taylor and Michael Blackson. Director Craig Brewer, who also worked with Murphy on Dolemite is My Name, promises more depth from the upcoming sequel.
"Without giving away too much, there's trouble on the horizon with a neighboring country because of something Akeem did or didn't do in the first movie," he told Entertainment Weekly. "And now there's this blended family that is happening. Prince Akeem now needs to be a king and have children of his own and find out how to rule his kingdom with these old laws. He’s got some problems he’s got to figure out and he’s got a little bit more depth in this particular one. Not to take away from the original, because we never will."
Coming 2 America will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video March 5, 2021.
