Watch Martin Scorsese, Billie Eilish, Idina Menzel & Others React To Eminem's "Lose Yourself" Oscars Performance
We are all Scorsese.
During the 2020 Oscars, Eminem made a surprise appearance and performed "Lose Yourself," his 2002 hit song that appeared in his film 8 Mile from that same year. The performance came 17 years after "Lose Yourself' won the award for best original song in 2003, which the Detroit rapper wasn't present for.

And even though the choice to have Em perform this 18-year-old song at the Oscars baffled many viewers, at least it spawned a number of amusing audience reactions, including Martin Scorsese, Idina Menzel, Billie Eilish, and Zazie Beetz.
Sure, even these screengrabs already convey just how unexpected Eminem's appearance was, but this video highlighting a number of audience reactions shows the range of feelings people were having throughout the rapper's set.
Some, like Beetz, enjoyed the performance. Others, like Scorsese, seemed disinterested, showing no emotion whatsoever in the moment he was caught on camera. Needless to say, some of these reactions are sure to become memes (if they already aren't), so there is some good to come from this. Now, if only the camera had panned to Parasite director Bong Joon-ho for a few seconds just to see how he reacted to it all. (Maybe he's a secret Em fan but now we'll never know.) But overall, it seemed that most in attendance enjoyed the performance, with the rapper receiving a standing ovation once he finished.
Following his performance, Em took to Twitter to share the following post.
Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity...Thanks for having me @TheAcademy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here," he wrote, along with a video of Luis Resto accepting the best original song award back in 2003.
