'We Still Should Get Justice': Eric Garner's Mother Calls For Arrest Of Cop Who Killed Her Son
Eric Garner's mother is demanding that local officials take charge in punishing the NYPD police officer who choked her son on a Staten Island sidewalk three years ago.
In a report from New York Daily News, Gwen Carr, Garner's mother, recently called out the NYPD and Mayor de Blasio to take disciplinary action against Officer Daniel Pantaleo, the cop who used a banned chokehold on Garner and ultimately killed the 43-year-old.
"I thought I would have gotten justice a long time ago. But as of now, they're still stringing us along," Carr said. "So that's why we are asking, we are begging, the mayor to please go forward with this, and the police department."
"I feel no matter who the President is or who the attorney general is, we still live in America, and we still should get justice," Carr added.

Earlier this month the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) found that Pantaleo's chokehold did mess with Garner's breathing and that the NYPD should impose its most severe punishments. However, the board cannot issue any punishments itself. Following the board's announcement, activists called on the Department of Justice to complete its investigation against Pantaleo.
Kirsten John Foy of the National Action Network joined Carr at the CCRB meeting Monday and said the city should take responsibility in charging Pantaleo instead of waiting on federal authorities.
"This mayor, Mayor de Blasio, has not been shy in pushing back against the Trump administration agenda as it relates to immigration, as it relates to housing, as it relates to everything," Foy said. "For him to be in lockstep with Jeff Sessions over Eric Garner flies in the face of everything voters (who) voted for him believed that he would do."

Pantaleo continues to work for the NYPD, having received a reported $40,000 in overtime pay during the first two years of his modified desk duty position.
A couple of months back came news that Garner's family received $4 million from New York City. Garner’s youngest child, three-year-old Legacy Jayleen Garner-Miller, will receive $1.3 million; his widow, Esaw Snipes, will receive $1.4 million; his other daughters – Erica and Emerald Snipes – will each be paid $163,600; their older brother Eric will get $204,000 and their younger brother Emery will receive $482,000; and Garner’s mom, Carr, will receive $82,000.
