Erykah Badu Helped Deliver Teyana Taylor & Iman Shumpert's Newborn Daughter
In an Instagram video, Badu shared: "With all of my good intentions, I welcome you into this world."
Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert welcomed another bundle of joy into the world this weekend, Rue Rose. Erykah Badu was a doula during the delivery.
Over on Instagram, after Rue's safe arrival Shumpert confirmed the birth of his newborn daughter. In the caption of his post, he shared she'd arrived in the same bathroom as his daughter Junie. "Our newest edition entered the world in the water and came out looking around and ready to explore! A healthy child. A little sister. Another daughter."
Badu followed suit and welcomed Rue by sharing a special message. In a two-minute-long video, Badu shared:
“Now that Rue Rose is here, time to charge up some baby shirts — let’s go. I remember reading that Emoto said that human consciousness could affect the molecular structure of water. The intention could change the cellular patterns.”
She also added, “Why not with words on shirts? Turning the shirt inside out and writing a message of calmness or peace or healing could do the same thing. I imagine that the cells mimic the intent of words, so I decided to charge it even more with the sunlight and crystals... With all of my good intentions, I welcome you into this world.”
In case you’re curious how Badu became a doula, she first found her calling as one back in 2001. Back in 2015, in aPitchfork profile, she expressed she “became a doula by default.” Badu shared, “I had Seven [my son] naturally, at home, and a couple of years later I was traveling through Europe, and one of my best friends Afya, who is the wife of stic.man from dead prez, went into labor. I naturally knew what to do, and it was then that I figured out that this was something I can do that makes me so fulfilled.”
On Teyana’s newest release, The Album, the first track, "Intro" features a sound clip of her daughter Junie’s delivery which Iman assisted with. Only time will tell if a similar sound bite will be heard on Taylor's next album, we'll be patiently waiting.
