Estate of MF DOOM Demands That Egon Returns the Rapper's Old Rhyme Books
The estate of MF DOOM has accused Now-Again Records founder Eothen “Egon” Alapatt of not returning the late rapper's rhyme books.
The estate of MF DOOM is still going afterNow-Again Records founder Eothen "Egon" Alapatt. On Wednesday (March 1), DOOM's Twitter page posted a tweet reading "Egon Give the Notebooks Back," with Gmail screenshots with emails between Alapatt, DOOM's widow Jasmine Dumile, and presumably the late MC himself under the pseudonym Karlo Metal-Franks.
"Peace E," reads an email directed to Alapatt in August 2016. "Any word from [redacted] on my belongings. I really need those notebooks."
"I have no idea where [redacted] is," read Alapatt's response. "As I told [redacted] when she contacted me... He disappeared when his family sold the building, which, from what I understand, has been gutted. I know from working with [redacted] that they carted away dumpsters full of stuff."
Jasmine joined the conversation a little over a week later, saying that the unknown party said that Alapatt had the notebooks in his possession.
Alapatt seemingly didn't respond, as an email from January 2017 shows either DOOM or Jasmine urging the Now-Again Records founder to return the notebooks.
In a statement released to Complex last year, Jasmine claimed that the notebooks were still being held by Alapatt.
“We can confirm Eothen ‘Egon’ Alapatt is illegally in possession of rhyme books owned by MF DOOM,” Dumile stated. “There have been many unsuccessful attempts to get these back prior to DOOM’s passing. We had hoped after DOOM transitioned Egon would do the right thing and return the books to the family but he has continued to ignore these requests. Unfortunately, Egon is not the only former associate abusing the likeness, art and life’s work of DOOM, more will be said at the appropriate time.”
