Flying Lotus To Premiere Debut Feature Film 'Kuso' At Sundance 2017
Last week the 2017 Sundance Film Festivalannounced a preliminary lineup for its annual event, which included films focused on Michael Brown, Winnie Mandela and Roxanne Shanté.
Now, news has been announced that Flying Lotus will be premiering his debut feature length film Kuso at the festival.
The producer took to Instagram to make the announcement. "Dreams come true, even the shitty ones. My first feature film Kuso will premiere at Sundance 2017! Love to everyone involved in making this madness. Can't wait to unleash this on you," Flying Lotus captioned the post with.
Kuso seems to have quite the cast attached to it. Hannibal Buress; Tim Heidecker (of Tim & Eric fame); Donnell Rawlings (a regular on Chappelle Show); George Clinton; Anders Holm (of Workaholics fame); and comedian Byron Bowers are all a part of the film.
The movie will also include new music from Captain Murphy (FlyLo's rap alter ego); Aphex Twin; Thundercat; and Akira Yamoaka.
"The idea behind Kuso is a simple one. It's pretty much everything I'm afraid of," FlyLo said in regards to Kuso. Royal, which premiered earlier this year, was the short film equivalent to Kuso. The screening for the short came with a vomit bag for everyone in attendance, and made its premiere at the Sundance NEXT Fest in Downtown Los Angeles.
Kuso plays into FlyLo launching Brainfeeder Films earlier this year alongside filmmaker Eddie Alcazar. Brainfeeder Films will be an independent film, finance and production outfit, that will focus on producing "traditional and nontraditional entertainment" and commercial content for global audiences.
"I've always wanted Brainfeeder to be a home for emerging artists, creative talent, and filmmakers who are looking to work outside the traditional studio and independent distribution systems," Flying Lotus said in an interview with Variety.
Hopefully we will be getting a teaser trailer for Kuso in the near future. The 2017 Sundance Film Festival begins on January 19 to January 29, at Park City, Utah.
