Listen to the First Trailer for 'Freaknik: A Discourse on a Paradise Lost,' A New Podcast Telling the History of the Iconic ATL Party [Premiere]
The eight-episode podcast will feature Too Short, Bun B, Uncle Luke, Organized Noise, and more.
This weekend, Freaknik is returning to Atlanta, in the form of a concert. It will be a vastly different experience than what Freaknik used to be.
Freaknik started out as a small gathering between students from historically Black colleges and universities. By the early-'90s, Freaknik was the wildest, rowdiest event in the country, a street party that went on for days and would feature the hottest rappers at the time.
At the height of the festival, they would shut the city down.
There is so much history. And now Mass Appeal is teaming up with Endeavor to tell that history. On Tuesday, June 25th, Mass Appeal and Endeavor Audio are releasing Freaknik: A Discourse on a Paradise Lost, an eight-episode podcast that will tell the entire history of the iconic festival.
The documentary podcast will tell the story of Freaknik from the voices that were there, featuring artists, students, journalists, business owners, and more. Prominent voices you'll hear include Too $hort, Uncle Luke, JT Money, Bun B, Organized Noise, and more.
Today we are proud to premiere the trailer for the podcast, which will give listeners a little taste of what to expect.
The podcast — which you can listen on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you play your podcasts — will be hosted by Christopher Frierson. And, starting on June 25th, it will be released every Tuesday.
