Fred the Godson Reportedly Dead at 35 From COVID-19 Complications
The Bronx MC revealed his diagnosis just weeks ago.
Bronx rapper Fred the Godson has passed away due to complications from COVID-19 (Coronavirus), according to friends of the rapper. He was only 35 years old.
On April 7, Fred revealed his diagnosis on Twitter. "I'm in here with this COVID-19 shit," he tweeted, alongside a picture of him wearing a ventilator. "Please keep me in y'all prayers! #GodIsGreat."
On Wednesday, April 22nd, The Source reported that Fred's kidneys were not functioning, but his fever had improved significantly. Since he suffered from asthma and nephritis, he was more vulnerable to the virus' respiratory damage.
Two weeks ago, Fred's wife LeeAnn Jemmott, spoke with XXL to update readers on his condition. At the time, Jemmott said doctors had "weaned him down" from full ventilator assistance to 40 percent. Fred is survived by LeeAnn and their two daughters.
After news came out that he passed, Friends and family took to Instagram to express their condolences. New Jersey MC Lady Luck posted the news, adding "2020 has been so cruel to us all...rest easy my brother. My heart goes out to your family. #prayforgordo."
Former collaborator Jaquae added "sleep in peace my brother...You'll never be forgotten."
After the news came out, rappers and producers from Alchemist to Ice T to Lloyd Banks went on Twitter to pay their respect.
Fred the Godson appeared in the XXL Freshman Class of 2011 alongside notable names like Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill. Over the years, he dropped a City of God Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama. His Gorilla Glue project featured names like Dave East and Jim Jones.
In addition to Fred, Houston rappers Scarface and Slim Thug recently revealed they'd tested positive for COVID-19. While recovering, Slim Thug has agreed to donated hand sanitizer to bus drivers and police departments.
