Freddie Gibbs Talks 'Piñata' LP, Young Jeezy Turmoil + Gary, IN On 'Ebro In The Morning'
Freddie Gibbs took to Ebro Darden's Hot97 program Ebro In The Morning to clear the air about his newly embattled relationship with the ayyyy-sayer Young Jeezy, his Gary, Indiana roots and his stellar collaboration with the Beat Konducta himself Madlib on Piñata. After devoting a large part of the interview to deconstructing some words Jeezy had about the Midwest's microphone champ, Gibbs delved into his Gary upbringing, drawing a clear line between the post-industrial landscape of Jacksons fame and the post-crack era devastation that Gibbs was subjected to in his own early years.
After a bit of origin tale telling, Gibbs hit us with some words about his Madlib team-up Piñata, which has been sitting pretty atop this year's superlative earners, as perhaps the best hip-hop album of the year. Describing the process as challenging at first, Gibbs chocks up the refinement of his own writing process to the opportunity to mix it up with one of the masters, eventually resulting in a bonafide classic. One for the books, if you would. You can catch the verbal freak they call Freddie touch on all of these things and drop a few lines of his own on Ebro In The Morning below.
