Freddie Gibbs x Madlib - "Harold's" [Official Video]
The reigning rap duo of Freddie Gibbs and Madlib has been more than generous already with their latest full-album collaboration Piñata, and now they're back to give us some more. The two have dropped a new video clip for "Harold's", the top-notch banger that puts both men's purest powers on display.
We're taken back to the frosty streets of Gary, Indiana in the clip, which gives us a memory-lane look at the hometown Harold's Chicken Shack from which the song takes its name. Keeping in step with the direction style of past Piñata clips like "Deeper," Freddie's lines get clear visual depictions--the 9mm Beretta and golden rollies are front and center. But despite all that, "Harold's" is a track with a kind heart. Gibbs is letting in on his own humble beginnings and the joy of his favorite corner comfort food, and Madlib's guitar samples beam like the first spring sun over Indiana snow.
If the whole point of a piñata is to crack it open and reap the treats that rain down upon you, then Freddie and Madlib's LP is well-named. The record is a wild beast that keeps on delivering the sweet, sweet goods.
Gibbs is currently keeping busy with a European tour (dates here) and Madlib himself has been in overdrive, dropping the Piñata Beats supplement to the duo's record as well as a new edition of his Rock Kunducta tape series. But from the looks of things, neither cat is ready to let Piñata slip out of the spotlight, and damned if we're about to disagree with them. Keep them chips off in your cell phones.
