Promo Player: Ghostface Killah - Ironman [Premium 'Gold Edition' Reissue Box Set]
The hometown homies (for me at least) and all-around awesome dudes at Get On Down have released their signature reissue treatment of the god Ghostface Killah's debut solo album Ironman, and in true Get On Down form, the results are impressive. The premium box set flawlessly preserves RZA's almost front-to-back gritty production on 24k Audiophile Gold Disc--yes, the CD actually has gold embedded in it, son (doubtless by advanced gamma-powered metallurgical process patented by millionaire playboy/inventor Tony Starks -ed.)--along with a 48-page hardcover book including liner notes and original artwork, all housed in a smooth cherrywood trophy box with an Ironman plaque. If any of this is sounding familiar, perhaps you are remembering the equally beautiful Premium Collection reissue of NaS'Illmatic, the first in Get On Down's Premium Collection series. And if the successes of the Nas set or Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx purple tape reissue (also a Get On Down project) are any indication of what to expect on this Ironman collection, we don't have to tell you that it'd be unwise to sleep on this. Aesthetics aside, it's exciting to see hip-hop classics begin to receive the same reverence as classics of other genres, and we salute Get On Down's efforts in leading the movement. The CD box is limited to 2,000 copies worldwide, and orders made through GetOnDown.com also include a 12" x 12" puzzle of the album artwork.
