Mixtape Mondays: Gilles Peterson, Full Crate & FS Green, Osunlade
After surviving Hurricane Sandy, a freak snow-storm, and the 2012 Presidential election, things seem to be slowly returning to normal in New York City. The subways are all running. The sun has returned, along with 60 degree weather, and President Obama got four more years in the White House. November is quickly redeeming itself in our eyes.
But enough about all of that. You're here for some mixtapes, and this week we have some great ones for you. Gilles Peterson drops a vinyl-only mix in the eclectic style only he can pull off. Osunlade celebrates the right to vote with a house mix for the ages. Full Crate & FS Green unleash the newest 65 minutes in their monthly mixtape series.
Gilles Peterson - Bless The Basement 1:
By now, we all should know that Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio host and Brownswood Records head-honcho, is to be given your full trust whenever he steps behind the decks. Peterson's eclectic style is on display on Bless The Basement 1, a vinyl-only mix that touches on reggae, early 80's champagne soul, disco and more. Mr. Peterson didn't leave a tracklist behind, but all of you Shazam enthusiasts should be able to identify tracks by The Brute Steel Force Band, Brigitte Fontaine, and Jaye P. Morgan amongst others. Or stick it out to the end where Gilles and Rob "Earl Zinger" Gallagher go through the tracklist.
(No tracklist or download available. Sorry 'bout that!)

Osunlade - Right To Vote:
I first got hip to Osunlade back in the 90s when he was still producing R&B joints like Eric Benet's "Femininity" and Freddie Jackson's "Was It Something" under his birthname, Christian Warren. By the end of the decade, Warren had changed his name to Osunlade, left R&B behind and switched full time to house music. On "Right To Vote," released before Election Day 2012, Osunlade sets the mood for the re-election of President Obama with a selection of uplifting soulful house jams.
