Gorillaz to Premiere New Music Video Series 'Song Machine' Tomorrow
The first track, "Momentary Bliss," will feature London MC Slowthai.
Fresh off the release of their documentary, Reject False Icons, Gorillaz has announced their plans to release new music. The group said they would forgo the traditional album rollout in favor of a music and video series. The series is titled Song Machine, and the first chapter, "Momentary Bliss" premieres January 30. According to Rolling Stone, the series features the animated group with an "ever-evolving" roster of collaborators.
"Song Machine is a whole new way of doing what we do," drummer Russel said in a statement. "Gorillaz breaking the mould 'cos the mould got old. The] world is moving faster than a supercharged particle, so we've gotta stay ready to drop. We don't even know who's stepping through the studio next. Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos."
On Tuesday, Gorillaz posted the Song Machine theme music to their YouTube channel. Today, they released a short sketch titled "Machine Bitez #1." On Thursday, the group will release "Momentary Bliss," featuring London MC Slowthai. The series won't follow a set schedule, but the group promises "spontaneous delivery of episodes throughout the year."
In June 2018, Gorillaz released their sixth studio album, The Now Now. The album boasted features from Snoop Dogg and Jamie Principle. On December 16, the group premiered its documentary for one night only. The documentary featured guest appearances from Vince Staples, Pusha-T, Danny Brown, and Kelela.
