Day 3 of Governors Ball Canceled Over Severe Weather Threat

Governors Ball 2019 was cut short.

Day 3 of the festival, which took place in New York City over the weekend (May 31, 2019 – Jun 3, 2019), ended in attendees leaving the venue on foot and walk across the Randalls Island bridge after an evacuation was ordered.

A statement was posted to the festival's official Instagram and Twitter accounts on Sunday evening that read, "Due to approaching severe weather and evacuation is in effect."

Sets from The Strokes and SZA, who were slated to headline the festival, were cut.

The decision came after rain delays and canceled sets on Saturday. The festival had been delayed for six hours earlier in the day due to forecasted storms. It did not rain and fans ended up waiting until doors opened at 6:30 p.m.

An updated schedule for Sunday was posted to the festival's website.

Governors Ball Festival evacuated following severe weather

Festival attendees criticized the cancellation, including fan Audrey Ouimet who told the New York Post, “It didn’t even rain and what the f–k, it’s supposed to be rain or shine. Are you kidding me?”

“Letting us know an hour or two hours before is kind of like ‘what the hell?’” Nicole Hoyos told the outlet. “Why would you not have an emergency plan?”

“I don’t think it was done right… at least give us half a refund something,” Alicia Litt said. “It’s not fair especially since nothing happened… they told us last minute too. Most people were already on their way coming.”

Governors Ball organizers issued another statement on Twitter saying that they are working on getting refunds for Day 3 attendees.
