Audio Premiere: Greg Grease "Black King Cole"
Minneapolis emcee Greg Grease seemed to catch a lot of people's attention with the release of his last video, "C.R.E.A.M Dreams," which appeared on his last LP, Cornbread, Pearl & G. I still suggest y'all check that album out, but Greg ain't waiting for you, as he's already readying the release of a new EP, Black King Cole. Today, we premiere the title track from the EP (Mike Shevy on the beat). Always one to be thoughtful with his lyrics/message, let Greg explain this one: "'Black King Cole' is an anthem for people that look like me, or have been told untruths or have had things hidden from them about who they are. We live in a culture that has been created for us not that long ago yet we ask no questions. I believe in order to know who we truly are and interpret how we feel about certain situations we must first know where we come from. It's the feel good celebration of who we are despite what has happened to us, we're still here going strong and getting stronger.” A worthwhile message conveyed over a very dope track. You can cop the single on iTunes and look for The Black King Cole EP to drop May 21st via Sound Verite Records/Riverlife Dry Goods (limited edition 12" drops May 26th).
