Harlem Sticks Together: Cam'ron and A$AP Ferg Considering Collab EP
Cam'ron doesn't owe a cosign to everyone from his hometown of Harlem, New York City, but when he gives it, it means something. In a recent interview, he revealed plans to work with A$AP Ferg.
In a recent interview with radio veteran Angie Martinez, Cam said he and Ferg have floated the idea of recording a project together.
"I just seen Ferg in LA also, a couple weeks ago. We talked about possibly doing an EP, six songs, and then touring it," he said. Ferg just released his last album, Always Strive and Prosper, in April 2016. "I just did something for his project, and he did something for my project."
The topic came up when Martinez and Cam'ron were talking about his tendency to work with other rappers from his stomping grounds of Harlem. He spoke about appearing on Dave East's most album from earlier this year.
"Dave East brings a breath of fresh air. Everything is singing, and autotune, and catchy hooks. He has a mid-late-90s flow to me, to where it's no gimmicks, it's all lyrics. You get what you get from him," Cam'ron said.
"If there was a mayor for Harlem, I might run. But there's no mayor from Harlem. I don't own Harlem," he chuckled. "People get that concept. But I do appreciate the love, and people always acknowledging me when it comes to things that have to do with Harlem."
Cam'ron didn't reveal a timetable for the Ferg project, but he said that he may release a mixtape next month. He explained that he plans to release an album with Sony in March, and that he has enough songs to release "two or three" mixtapes before that. He is also on the Killa Season 2 Tour now; he performs at Highline Ballroom in New York City on Monday, Dec. 5, and will travel around the East Coast, Midwest and the Bay Area until concluding the tour on Friday, Dec. 23 in Minneapolis, Minn.
As usual, Martinez also gets other gems from Cam'ron. He explains his gradual falling out with Diplomats groupmate Jim Jones, why he never joined any of the Love & Hip-Hop shows, and shares behind-the-scenes memories from appearing in the classic hood movie Paid In Full.
