Hear Biggie's "Juicy" Over an Unreleased J Dilla Beat in Teaser For New Compilation
Almost precisely three years ago, we celebrated Christopher Wallace's born day by unearthing the J Dilla-produced rarity "The Ugliest." The track was originally intended for Busta Rhymes' 1996 album, The Coming, but was left on the cutting room floor for aiming not-so-subliminal shots at Tupac during heightened east-west tensions.
Today, another Brooklyn/Detroit connection is forged in a teaser for the freshly-announced posthumous Dilla compilation, Motor City, where Biggie's "Juicy" is painted against an unreleased Dilla backdrop, wavy-as-hell and commanding all ears far and wide. Motor City is billed as a hand-picked-and-sequenced selection of unreleased beats by Ma Dukes, arriving on April 21st via the Vintage Vibes imprint. It follows the Ma Dukes Collectionand last year's three-volume Dillatronic compilation as the latest in a seemingly endless run of posthumous releases from Ma Dukes and the estate.
This one also serves as a letter from Ma Dukes to her late son, with an actual letter packaged into the parcel-inspired vinyl release. Hear Biggie's "Juicy" over an unreleased J Dilla beat in the teaser below (provided by friend and collaborator, J Rocc) and pre-order your copy of the album today.
