Audio: Heems x Kolaveri Di - "Soup Boys (Pretty Drones)"
OK, Mama. First a little bit of context cause clearly these other rap blogs have no clue what Heems is riffing off of on this new track "Soup Boys (Pretty Drones)." The beat and the soup reference are both lifted from "Kolaveri Di" a retardedly brilliant South Indian auto-croon film song--ok, actually an in-studio "making-of" a retardedly brilliant South Indian auto-croon film song. Thanks to the demographics of India and its perfect storm of catchiness and unintentional comedy this video was for a brief minute last year the most watched thing on the internet (watch the original after the jump and for more context on the track's cultural impact, some commentary from a former European dictator) and dude was more famous in South Asia than Barack Obama (far more famous actually). In this track, which was debuted earlier today by GQIndia, Heems (actually producer Lushlife) flips the most addictive part of the beat into a bed for his unique mix of stoned street satire, all pretty drones and cookie dough on sugarcones. So when you bop your head to this, bop with context. And if you see Himanshu in the streets, lift up your glass-la scotch-u. And call him MEMES.
