Ice Cube Confirms A 'Straight Outta Compton'-Inspired Album From Dr. Dre Is On The Way
All of those waiting on the next episode in the Dr. Dre saga (beyond, of course, the forthcoming NWA biopic) will soon be able to exhale with great relief. This morning, Ice Cube and the cast of Straight Outta Compton gathered in Philly's Power 99.9 studio to discuss the film, the rumored NWA reunion tour and a wide array of other topics. But the most glaring detail revealed by Cube had little to do with the film and much to do with fulfilling a true-schooler's dream, confirming that Dre will be releasing new music inspired by the film, and this week no less! According to the legend, Dre's dropping a full album ahead of the film's release with our very first taste coming on August 1st, presumably during The Doctor's Beats 1 program The Pharmacy, which began its run with a massive tribute to the one only J Dilla at the end of June. There's little else known as to what we can expect, but I'll be damned if new material from Dr. Dre doesn't make one of music's most memorable years on record that much more exciting. Stay tuned for the drop this weekend and brace your self for the imminent feels once Straight Outta Compton hits theaters on August 14th. Watch Power 99.9 interview below.
