The league changed the rule as part of its tribute to Kobe and Gianna Bryant.

Despite the initial confusion regarding the NBA All-Star Game's rule changes, fan response to the new format was overwhelmingly positive. However, the feedback was bittersweet to at least one person.

Ice Cube, founder of the Big3 3-on-3 basketball league, noticed a similarity in the two leagues on Sunday morning. The NBA decided to play without a running clock, a rule the Big3 has already implemented. The league explained this rule change and others in a promotional tweet.

"Oh really?" Cube replied, "Where should I send my invoice?"

The league made significant rule changes to this year's All-Star Game to honor the victims of the helicopter crash that took the lives of Kobe and Gianna Bryant. For the fourth quarter, both teams attempted to reach a target score to win $200,000 for charity.

Cube took credit for the rule change in a follow-up tweet.

"The forward thinking of the Big3 is taking our credit for helping the NBA make the 4thQ of yesterday's ASG one to remember," Cube said. "Many will try to pull the Elam rule out their asses, but we proved in 2017 that no game clock is the future. #nogarbageminutes"

On January 15, the league announced its age limit would be lowered to 22. Additionally, the league announced the use of the term 'Fireball3' to describe its rule set.
