Ice Spice Hops to Surprise Remix of Taylor Swift's "Karma"
Ice Spice features on the remix to Taylor Swift’s “Karma” after Swift’s rumored boyfriend Matt Healy made offensive comments about the rising Bronx rapper.
Ice Spice has been taking over. The 23-year-old rap newcomer appears on Taylor Swift’s “Karma” remix, which was released on Friday (May 26). While Swift is currently on The Eras Tour, the “Karma” remix appears on the Midnights (Til Dawn Edition) which also includes an extended Lana Del Rey appearance on the track “Snow on the Beach.”
While the “Karma” remix is Ice Spice’s latest all-star collaboration (she also appeared on “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress and “Princess Diana” remix with Nicki Minaj), the single came as a surprise to many fans. Swift’s rumored boyfriend, The 1975 member Matt Healy, made offensive comments about Spice, born Isis Gaston, during an appearance on podcast The Adam Friedland Show.
On the show, Healy called Gaston an "Inuit Spice Girl" and a "chubby Chinese lady,” while mocking Chinese accents. After the episode became available to stream, Healy gave a flippant apology to the “In Ha Mood” artist during a live performance.
"I just feel a bit bad, and I'm kind of a bit sorry if I've offended you. Ice Spice, I'm sorry," Healy said onstage. "It's not because I'm annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It's because I don't want Ice Spice to think I'm a d***. I love you, Ice Spice. I'm so sorry."
However, The 1975 frontman has also made crude “jokes” about Black women, praising NSFW website Ghetto Gaggers during another appearance on The Adam Friedland Show, where he shared once masturbating to porn of "brutalized" women.
Gatson has made no comment on the matter, and has heavily promoted the “Karma” remix.
