Donald Trump Supporters Chant "Send Her Back" About Ilhan Omar At North Carolina Rally
Omar has since responded to reports about the chant.
During a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday, Donald Trump supporters started chanting "Send her back" about Ilhan Omar after Trump continued his attacks against the Minnesota congresswoman.
At a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, Trump started speaking on Omar early on, but it was when he accused her of minimizing the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, that the chant came about.
"She looks down with contempt on the hard-working Americans saying that ignorance is pervasive in many parts of this country," Trump said.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Trump supporters then proceed to chant "Send her back" as he looks on at the crowd.
Omar, who came to the United States as a Somali refugee as a child, responded to a video of the chant on Twitter, referencing a part of Maya Angelou's "Still I Rise" poem.
She then tweeted a picture of herself presiding over the House Chamber with the following caption:
"I am where I belong, at the people's house and you're just gonna have to deal!"
Kamala Harris came to Omar's defense following reports of the chant.
"It's vile. It's cowardly. It's xenophobic," Harris tweeted. "It's racist. It defiles the office of the President. And I won't share it here. It's time to get Trump out of office and unite the country."
Cardi B also showed her support of the Minnesota congresswoman in a post on Instagram.
