Issa Rae's Production Company Premieres Atlanta Filmmaker Christian Jones' Short 'Brown With Blue'
The short has already received critical acclaim ahead of its official premiere.
Issa Rae’s Short Film Sundays has announced the newest project slated to premiere this weekend, Brown With Blue by filmmaker Christian Nolan Jones. Every first Sunday of the month, Rae's production company premieres a short film from creators of color.
Ahead of its premiere Brown With Blue has already garnered a bit of buzz. Back in September, it won Best Local Short at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival. It was also an official selection in this year’s Atlanta Film Festival.
The short film categorized as a drama follows a Black couple, Carmine (Patrick Cage), a handyman, and Blue (Zoë Soul), a camgirl struggling with an addiction. Throughout the short, both characters face inner battles as they work towards forgetting the past.
Jones, a rising filmmaker originally from Atlanta is an alumnus of Tisch School of the Arts. At one point in his life, he spent some time at Howard University. Though he’s currently based in Atlanta, Harlem was his home for years. He relocated to his hometown amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In his work, he focuses on creating projects that speak to human experiences. He’s directed and produced videos for French Montana, A Boogie and Cam’ron. Christian prides himself on working with budding talent. Spike Lee is one of his biggest inspirations.
In 2017, Jones’ short Print Shop received critical acclaim in festivals and the creative circuit in the U.S. Previous projects he’s worked on include Hathie (2014) and Wolves (2015).
On his latest short, Christian shares, "Brown With Blue is a true testament to what can happen when everyone believes in a story. To me, this film is about the slow death of a relationship. From their first scene together until their final scene together, we watch everything fall apart at the seams."
He added, "Out of all the films I’ve made so far in my career, this is the first final cut I’m completely satisfied with. Two years of dedication to make it to the finish line. There’s not one person on the credits who didn’t go above and beyond to make the story come together."
Jones directed Brown With Blue and also wrote the short alongside Dominick A. Cormier. Executive producers were T. Popps and O. Valerie Nicolas. Additional producers include Shannon Ousley, Zoe Munlyn, and Gil Taveras. Cinematography is by Daniel Anguiano.
