Jay Electronica, Guilty Simpson & More to Honor J Dilla at the Third Annual 'Dillatroit'
Dilla fans in the Midwest have a lot to look forward to this weekend
February 7th is J Dilla's birthday. The legendary producer would have turned 44.
This weekend there will be a number of events to honor the life and death of the producer. (In 2006, Jay Dee would pass on February 10th, just a couple of days after his birthday.) The most well-known event is the annual Dillatroit concert, which is going on its third year. This year's concert is going down on February 11th and will be held at The Dimer Underground in Detroit. Prices start at $18.

This year's tribute concert will feature Jay Electronica, Guilty Simpson, Obie Trice, Phat Kat, and more. Proceeds from the concert will go to the James Dewitt Yancey Foundation, which aims to fund music programs in various schools.

That's not the only Dilla-based event happening this weekend. On Friday, composer Charlie Coffeen and a collection of musicians will recreate Dilla's masterpiece Donuts at Thalia Hall in Chicago. Even though they are covering an instrumental album, the event will feature vocalists like Eryn Allen Kane, Chantae Cann, and Chris Turner.
That event goes down on Friday, February 9th and tickets start at $18.
