JAY-Z Dropped a Playlist of his Favorite 2022 Songs, Feat. Kendrick Lamar, Kodak Black, & More
On Memorial Day, JAY-Z surprised TIDAL users with a special curated list featuring Kendrick Lamar, Babyface Ray, Kodak Black, Gunna and more.
Just in time for Memorial Day (May 29), JAY-Z released a curated TIDAL playlist. Titled 'Montecito,' the rap-centric playlist features 22 tracks with spots from Kendrick Lamar ("Rich Spirit," "Silent Hill"), Babyface Ray ("A1 Since Day 1," "6 Mile Show," "Family > Money"), Vince Staples featuring Lil Baby ("EAST POINT PRAYER"), and Pusha T ("Just So You Remember.")
The playlist cover features vocalist Jae Murphy in a DJ booth with Hov during the 50th birthday party of Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith this month. Also in attendance at the private affair was Travis Scott.
On Twitter Spaces last June, Hov claimed that his playlist curation was undefeated.
“I found so many songs [on Tidal], my playlist game is A++. I challenge anyone out there,” he said. “I’m definitely, you know, in the top tier of playlist creators.”
Also last year, Hov sold a majority stake to TIDAL to then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, also explaining in Twitter Spaces his motivation in partnering with the business mogul.
“I think we were aligned in our conversation, and viewing artists and creatives as small businesses and treating each individual artist as a business,” Hov explained. “And the things that Square and Cash App were doing is pretty much aligned with what one does with their own brand. You create a business, take out a small loan, get the things you need to help you be successful and build it out from there. So our conversations just naturally aligned.”
