Jennifer Lopez Becomes First Latinx Artist to Win VMAs Vanguard Award
JLo just made history.
Jennifer Lopez is the latest recipient of the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. The entertainer received the honor Monday night at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City, becoming the first ever latinx to win the award.
Fellow Bronxite Cardi B, presented Lopez with the award, calling it "a tremendous honor."
"It has been an incredible journey of dreaming my wildest dreams and then kind of watching them come true," Lopez said in her speech. She also thanked her fans, saying they "have touched my heart and my soul and become a part of me."
Past recipients of the Vanguard award include Beyoncé, Rihanna, Madonna, and Britney Spears. In 1997, LL Cool J became the first rap artist to receive the award.

Jlo brought out Ja Rule and DJ Khaled for a performance medley that took viewers through her two decades of her discography.
It was Lopez's first time performing on the award show since 2001.
