Based on Dapper Dan's forthcoming memoir (out 2019 through Random House), the biopic will be adapted by Jerrod Carmichael, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Carmichael will also serve as a producer alongside Josh Bratman, while Dapper Dan and Jelani Day, his son and brand manager, are set to executive produce.
The feature film will be set in Harlem and is described as a "high-stakes coming-of-age story." No other information is known about the forthcoming project.
A couple months back Dapper Dan announced that he and Gucci were teaming up to open a new boutique in Harlem. The items the boutique will be selling include made-to-order garments as well as customizable items.
Dapper Dan officially made the announcement on his social media accounts, writing "A sign of the times. For the 1st time in history, a major luxury brand store has opened in Harlem."
Gucci had faced backlash late last year after the clothing brand was accused of plagiarizing one of Dapper Dan's design.
The controversy stemmed from some pictures of Alessandro Michele's Gucci cruise collection show, with one of the photos featuring a model wearing a bomber jacket that very similar to a Dapper Dan jacket from the '80s.
Gucci eventually released a statement, which they also put on their Instagram, where they gave their side of their story and claimed they were paying "homage" to Dapper Dan.
