Stream the Deluxe Version of Jhené Aiko's 'Chilombo' Album
Jhené Aiko has added nine songs to her stellar Chilombo album.
Jhené Aiko has released a deluxe version of her third studio album, Chilombo.
The deluxe version of the album, which is titled after her last name, now features 29 tracks from the singer.
With this version, Jhené got guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, her sister Mila J, and Chris Brown. The album already featured appearances from Nas, ex-flame Big Sean, H.E.R., Dr. Chill, Ab-Soul, Future, and Miguel. (Future and Miguel appear on “Happiness Over Everything (HOE),” a remake of "HOE" which appeared on Jhené's debut mixtape, Sailing Soul(s).)
One of the interesting aspects of Jhené's Chilombo album is the experimental aspect of it. In an interview with Billboard, the singer talked about the making of the album and the role that sound bowls — a Tibetan musical instrument that produces a vibrating sound when struck or shaken — played.
Sound bowls, also known as singing bowls, are featured on majority of the songs. And in speaking with Billboard she explained why:
[This album] is an introduction to sound bowls for people who don’t really know about them — this is me introducing my newfound love. The bowls I use are crystal alchemy sound bowls made from gemstones and infused with things like platinum or made out of rubies and diamonds — and all of these different elements and properties contribute to their healing factors. I basically was recording and had a session at my house where I just played different bowls to the music; every chakra has a note that corresponds with it.
