Jill Scott Talks James Brown Biopic, New Album + Mentoring On 'The Voice'
The ever so graceful Miss Jill Scott sat with Billboard to talk about some impending endeavors on the star's now congested docket. First up, the leading Soulquarian lady spoke on her upcoming role as James Brown's second wife Deedee Jenkins in the forthcoming biopic on The Godfather's life and legacyGet On Up, which she acquired while auditioning for a smaller part. She describes her method acting as a nod "from theMos Def school of acting" and gives praise to the immersion he implements in his own thespian triumphs.
Aside from the blockbuster biopic--produced by Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and blockbuster producer Brian Grazer-- Scott has a few other projects in the works, recently being asked to fill the guest-mentoring slot on NBC's The Voice by mainstay judge/coach Usher. Scott, whose self-proclaimed adoration for the program is the driving force behind her participation, will be Usher's "secret weapon" on the hit primetime talent show. With so much already in the books, it seems hard to imagine that her shoulders could bear much more, but it seems her work ethic has remained unfettered in her 20 years of writing, recording and acting, as she intends to release the follow-up to 2011'sThe Light Of The Sunright around Get On Up's intendedAugust 1st premiere.
