JMSN Live In SF [Photos + Recap]
Not many things come out of Eastpointe, Michigan besides JMSN. Then again, when you play more instruments than you can count, produce all your own songs and direct your own music videos, you don't have to have much else. This is the fortuitous position Christian Berishaj-- better known as JMSN-- found himself in. After his unique sound-- orchestral, subdued and soulful-- established him as a rising voice in the R&B community, he created his own label, White Room Records, JMSN has been steadily accumulating praise from critics to artists. The hype began in 2012 with his release of Priscilla-- his debut LP. The album was a bold assertion: when Berishaj sings, the industry listens. Usher puts it best, "I’m loving JMSN right now. He’s an R&B singer and his album Priscilla just dropped. I really like his voice and I like that element of, really just soul, but part of the same sound that he possesses."
More was to come, however, with his most recent release, Pllajë. The EP brought him to San Francisco where we were lucky enough to have frequent Okayplayer contributor Ashleigh Reddy grab dope photo after dope photo. Berishaj's razor sharp voice cut through the beautifully harsh strobe lights at last night's performance. I'd say you should sing along, but I'm positive you won't be able to hit his notes.
