'It Really Is Demonic': Prince Expressed His Disapproval Of Holograms Two Decades Ago
A 1998 interview between Prince and Guitar World has resurfaced following the announcement of the hologram, where the Purple Rain creator disapproved of the idea of playing with holograms of artists.
"With digital editing, it is now possible to create a situation where you could jam with any artist from the past. Would you ever consider doing something like that?,” the interviewer asked to which Prince responded:
Certainly not. That's the most demonic thing imaginable. Everything is as it is, and it should be. If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing... it really is demonic. And I am not a demon. Also, what they did with that Beatles song ["Free As a Bird"], manipulating John Lennon's voice to have him singing from across the grave... that'll never happen to me. To prevent that kind of thing from happening is another reason why I want artistic control.

The halftime show will include a hologram of Prince, honoring the late musician in his hometown of Minneapolis (the game is taking place at the city's U.S. Bank Stadium), according to a report from TMZ. The possibility of Prince returning to the stage as a hologram was first mentioned by Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson, in April of last year.
Prince performed at the Super Bowl back in 2007, playing a medley of his best known hits as it rained at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Recently it was announced that "mind-blowing" unreleased Prince music is coming soon.
Speaking with Variety, Troy Carter revealed that unreleased music from the Purple One will be "coming soon" but did not offer any other details about the recordings.
"He was a guy who practically lived in a recording studio, and once we started going through [the unreleased material] we really started finding some gems," Carter, who is also Spotify's global head of creative services, said. “I heard some music the other night that was pretty mind-blowing and we’re getting some stuff mixed right now. We’ve got great projects in the works that I’m excited to talk about."
