Kamala Harris Announces She's Running For President
Harris has entered the race.
California Democratic Senator Kamala Harris has announced that she is running for president in 2020. Harris, who is onlythe second black women to serve in the United States Senate, announcedher historic candidacyonMartin Luther King Jr. Day, which is a symbolicgesture. Her announcementis also a nod to Shirley Chisholm, the first black women to run for president. (She announcedherrun on January 25, 1972.)

Harris made the announcementin a social media video where she declaredthat she was going to fight for "American values." (A clear dig at our current administration.)
Harris willhold her first campaign event in South Carolina on Friday, January25th. And then two days later, on Sunday,January27th, she will have a kickoff rally in her hometown Oakland, California.
